What does MLDA stand for? -MLDA stands for Minimal Leagal Drinking Age.
Why in 1984 did states agree to raise their legal age to purchase or possess alcohol publicly to 21? -They lowered it for risk of losing millions in federal highway funds.
People who are for lowering the MDLA argue that is has not stopped teen drinking, and has instead pushed underage binge drinking into underground less controlled environments. People who feel the MLDA should not be lowered argue that teens have not yet reached an age where they can handle alcohol responsibly, and are more likely to harm or even kill themselves and others by drinking prior to 21. What do you think?
-I agree that we should not lower the MLDA because I don't think that teenagers would be mature or responsible enough to be able to drink at a younger age. I also think that the teens wouldn't be well educated enough to know all the dangers of what could happen if they drink too much, drink and drive, or if they give an underage teen alcohol.
